Moment Sound Vol 1
A little while back we got sent a compilation from Chicago electronica label Moment Sound simply entitled Vol 1, comprised of selected individual works of its three founders, and I’ve been vibing to it quite frequently since. As might be deducted from the use of the words ‘Chicago’ and ‘electronica’ in the same sentence, there is a strong debt to the local house traditions to be found here, though let’s be mindful not to venture into stereotypes: just because someone is from Chicago doesn’t necessarily mean he’s into house. To be sure, behind the slapping analogue basses and clinical arpeggiated synths populating these jams there is quite a pensive and somber mood running through like a slowly progressing zinc tear on an alloy polymer cheek, as exemplified in the desolate chord stabs and lonesome synth whistles of this engaging taster.
